Thank you – I cant believe it was that simple. I even ran the Validator before posting, but obviously misread the results it generated.

As an additional point of discussion – I use Dreamweaver CS4 to put my websites together so I’m surprised that it didn’t hi-light the missing character or flag up the error in any way at all
