well, you could make a page in wordpress, and then go into the settings of wordpress, tell wordpress what page to open up to, so you chose the page you want……

alternatively do what I done, make a static site, then added in a directory called blog (you can call this directory anything, like wordpress/news/etc) then upload wordpress to that, and just link into the wordpress page.
