Personally i would recommend like many other developers to have the website gracefully degrade so it still looks pretty much the same but doesn’t have any the fancy effects that modern browsers do, IE 7-8 you can probably get away with some JS animations and such but for IE6 it’s now recommended to just make it readable for those browsing on it.
