It’s not just the “hamburger” menu icon per se that’s my issue, it’s the click to show content and that content happens to be navigation that’s my personal issue. Especially when you have plenty of room to show the links, it’s just not good UX.

Like Joe, I’m also sensitive to your vision, but it seems like you’re getting stuck on it. Try stepping back from it and looking from a different perspective: someone that is trying to find something on your page and navigate through multiple pages during their visit.
