nixnerdI don’t ask what they want in a site. I ask what they want to accomplish with the site. Often times, they’ll THINK they want/need WordPress… but really, they just want the ability to upload videos or keep a blog. Neither one of these requires WordPress.
Asking the RIGHT questions early on is key. Don’t ask them how long the site will be up. @TheDoc is right… it’s of no concern to you. I’d talk to them about hosting because it might be crucial to the site. Some sites will struggle on shared hosting and if that’s their plan… it’s good to know up front.
Definitely don’t talk about a CMS. Ask what they want and you as the professional decide if they need one and if so… which one.
