The forums ran from 2008-2020 and are now closed and viewable here as an archive.
Basically it works like this, you add a font file to your server and using basic CSS you include and use it on typographic elements of your choosing. Right now it only works in Safari 3.1+ and Firefox 3.5+ with Opera support coming soon and their is an IE workaround available. It might work on Chrome or any browser using webkit as well.

There is still much debate on this topic (re: legalities) and I can only imagine the horror the internet will see once amateurs start using ridiculous fonts.
Regarding the legalities, their are a lot of creative commons licensed font’s to be found and used, here are is a good place to start: http://openfontlibrary.org
I agree that once anyone can use a font of their choosing we are going to see some horrible font choices, complete with bright contrasting colors and background-colors! The Horror.

As long as they come with flashing bulb surrounds and animated gif backgrounds! We can take it! :D
