text formatting in textbox

Hi guys, I don’t know what to call it so I’m having a hard time searching for tutorials about it. What do you call this form that we are writing into where you can choose from the options if you want to make your text bold, italic or make it as another paragraph?

I’m trying to create my own basic cms website and I want my clients to manipulate basic text formatting for the content of their website.

    Does it involve javascript?
