Learn JavaScript first or jump directly to jQuery

  • # February 7, 2010 at 2:45 pm

    Hi,

I would like to start learning JavaScript but I was wondering if I should start with jQuery or I do I need to start with JavaScript and then jQuery?

Do I start learning JavaScript using jQuery or learn JavaScript first and than jQuery?

    Thanks

Truthfully you should really start with Javascript, because JQuery is just a framework/extension of Javascript. By knowing the basics of the language, you can solve any problems you encounter with JQuery much more easily.

I would recommend using Jeffrey Way’s screencast series from NetTuts

tbh – I would say start with jQuery, it puts you in the correct mindset for Javascript if you want to move into JS later… Plus jQuery is easier, faster and can do pretty much everything you would need to do before coding full JS.
