Browsing CSS-Tricks by clicking the navigation tabs, Safari 3.1.2 crashes completely. Tends to happen more often with the Snippets and Freebies tabs.
I think it’s Javascript related as everything seems to be fine if it’s switched off, and Snippets and Freebies look pretty Javascript intensive.
The page half loads (background appears), there is lots of hard disk activity, then the crash.
I know my computer’s getting a little long in the tooth but Safari is usually rock solid, so this is unusual. (No problems in Firefox.)
Anyone else getting this?
[ 1.42 GHz PowerPC G4, 1GB RAM, Mac OS X 10.4.11, Safari Version 3.1.2 (4525.22)]
Happens to me also. Safari 3 and 4 on a 1.25GHz PPC G4. OS X 10.4.11
I’ve heard this from someone else too so it’s a very real thing. I haven’t been able to figure anything out yet though. If anyone has any ideas of what it might be, email me.
It’s affecting Opera and OmniWeb too. Even Firefox occasionally locks up with Activity Monitor showing max cpu usage.
Snippets and Freebies are the two tabs guaranteed to take down Safari. Home page and Forums are ok. Disable Javascript (or styles) in Safari and everything is ok.
I don’t know much about Javascript debugging but both Firebug and Opera’s debugger stopped at the same place on the Snippets page:
