Google Analytics is awesome, and free, I use it on my site and it’s really detailed.

I’m sure there’s a tutorial on how to build a simple counter, but you’re going to end up getting a number that really tells you nothing. Google Analytics, as mentioned already, is fantastic for analytics. If you’re looking for something that you host yourself there’s http://piwik.org which is also good.

Go with google analytics. If you are trying to add a counter to front end of your site to show people how many visits your site gets…. I would kindly ask that you not do that :)

True, a visitor counter isn’t going to give you much info about your site’s success. But how would I know you’re not just starting out and messing around with stuff and just getting into PHP?

Here’s a video from PHP Academy for a unique visitor counter :: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xkJI3TNQ9uk
