How does someone go about picking fonts based on an emotion or mood? I'd like a header and body font that put forth an entertaining yet authoritative feel, but it seems like all the font factories out there want you to pick by serifs, stroke width or some other physical description of the font. I can't seem to find anything where I could type a mood and get back suggestions. Any ideas where that might be possible?

Authoritative sounds professional, so I would probably go with a serif. With "entertaining" mixed into it, I would go with a serif with swashes.

I'm a big fan of TypeKit, maybe see if your client can afford a few bucks a month for it and then you can choose from a massive library.
u should probably talk to some artist (designer, painter) that knows about shapes and such. otherwise mark boulton knows his type :)
