G'day Karl(?), I'm Josh, an Australian web enthusiast.
CSS-Tricks was one of the first blogs I started frequenting, and I have learnt an incredible amount from Chris. I have been attempting to give back via the forums for a little while now, and I am always learning.
For those that are interested, I write about web related stuff at joshnh.com. Keep in mind that I am no expert, and everything there is merely my opinion.
hi, I am Amit Kamble, a graduating student and a web lover. Got into actual web designing and developing 6 months ago and still working and learning a lot.
i have a portfolio site www.amitashokkamble.com which is my first portfolio site as well as first wordpress site. so, hopefully will update on it.
been taking few freelancing projects which are "soon to be live....".
And this forum "CSS-TRICKS" is the best place to learn stuff. :)
Hello, I'm Adi, and young web enthusiast from California. I was recommended CSS-Tricks months ago, and I check it regularly now. I currently don't have a portfolio site. I've designed websites for various groups I'm associated in and family.
Hello! I'm Andy, I own Unleash IT (Ltd) here in Southampton in the UK, basically we do websites and hosting. So I'm always lurking on here for the latest tips and tricks!
I'm Dave Rollins. I got interested in web design 8-10 years ago when I wanted a site for my photography. I bought a couple of HTML books and eventually made my first site. It was absolutely terrible: tables, horrid colors, no CSS, didn't know about validation, hadn't learned about standards - pretty much every mistake you can make. Since being laid off from the company where I thought I'd work the rest of my career, I've worked to improve my design & coding enough to earn be proud of my sites and to earn some money. I've managed to get a few clients (mostly from my Art League), and I'm slowly approaching the point where I'll consider myself competent.
I don't have a portfolio site yet - that's the next big project on my list.
Hi all, I'm Josh (one of the many on this forum!). I used to manage a chunk of a large company that finally let go all of their support staff as they spiral into oblivion :) With the writing on the wall I started doing a ton of freelance work and then when I finally got let go, I started a company. So now I'm "in the wild"! I'm working to redo my site, branding, etc in the next 6 months - I felt like it was rushed since I had to get it out so quickly.
So yeah, this is my life now and I am loving the change. My continual thanks always goes out to CSS Tricks for being such an amazing resource and community. It really is a great group of people!
Howdy y'all, I'm Cliff White, from from the great state of Texas, as you've probably guessed from my icon, and last two letters of my username... I'm a home-schooled high school sophomore. I first got into web design about a year and a half ago when it was kinda forced down my throat for an organization I'm in. Like snillor, I did everything wrong for a while, but CSS-Tricks has done a pretty good job of straightening me out, I think. I haven't done a huge number of sites yet, as I'm pretty busy with school. I've been taking the "teach yourself" attitude on most things, and I'm trying to pass that on here on the forums.
This was a great idea. I'm sure we are all familiar with each other's usernames, but we have never stopped to say hi! Great to pseudo-meet all of you! I am also self taught, as it seems many of us here are.
Oh, and Cliff, I am most certainly not an expert, but I appreciate your kind words :)
My name is Gray, I work out of not-so-sunny Victoria, BC (Canada). I've been doing web development professionally for about 4-5 years now (though the interest and hobby-like nature has been around for much longer). I've recently just switched companies and now work for the wonderful people at Metalab, specifically creating and maintaing Tumblr and Shopify themes with Pixel Union (I don't have my picture up yet, how sad!).
I'm also self-taught, though that makes it sound like other people didn't have a hand in it. I'd say I'm more... non-school taught.
I've been a member on the forum for more than three years now and a moderator for more than two. Crazy how time has flown by! I mostly help out users with WordPress or HTML/CSS questions, I leave the jQuery problems to those with more knowledge!
My name is Jamy, I'm from South Africa and I work for a digital agency called Native. I've been doing front-end stuff for about 3 or 4 years - so I'm still relatively new. I have a web-development blog of my own called CSS Plus. I've been a forum moderator for almost 2 years and learnt a lot in the process.
I'm also self taught, but as far as I know there are no real web-development based courses at universities - Well not here at least. There are colleges, but I think that they are mostly a waste of time since I went to a college for a year to do my A+ and N+, I came out in the top 10 but I didn't know anything more than I did going in. tldr; I think you have to be selft taught, it takes practice and interest.
Mostly I love javascript and figuring out new things. Apart from the usual CSS, HTML5 and js I'm also interested in node.js, backbone.js, ruby, RoR and the fact Dart is a full on front end OOP language intrigues me.
@TheDoc Don't worry about not being school taught - I did accounting at Uni and have never been to a class about web design or development in all my 26 years!
I just took a CLEP test to be able to get credit for an IT-related class in college, and almost everything in the test was at least 10 years out of date. So, I'm not sure it's possible to learn much of any IT/web design related stuff from a school, as it's always changing faster than the textbooks are.
I started an information systems course last September, the material was about 20 years old and the lecturer was asking me for help because i working in the college, I dropped out
Nice to meet you all! I thought I'd join in the fun...
- My name is John, I am 26. - I was born and raised in Wolverhampton England, went to university for Product Design BSc at Brunel Uni in London. - I moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota in the grand old U.S of A almost 3 years ago now. - I currently work as a front-end developer/interactive designer at an interactive communications company called Axcept Media, but in 2 weeks I will be starting a new position as part of the web dev/design team at an online university called Capella. - I freelance on the side. I just graduated with a B.A. in Communications, then I somehow landed a job as a graphic designer. I have been learning Web Design for the past 4 months or so. I am a total "newb." I am one of the people who you all get annoyed with on the forum because I ask seemingly obvious questions. I apologize for that, but you all have really taught me a lot. I finally had a breakthrough a couple days ago and connected about 40 dots in my head. I don't have a portfolio site yet but I'm working on it. My strength is advertising/marketing. It helps me in designing with an end purpose.
I love CSS-Tricks, it has helped me every step of the way to learn and progress. Thanks to all of you.
Nice to learn a little about the fellow forum posters around here, a lot of you are very active users, with absolutely invaluable advice.
My little story:
I'm 21 years old from Australia, been playing around with websites for 5 years.
Around 2 years ago, a good friend of mine approached with a client and asked if a couple of us would be interested in partnering up, it was an extremely large, ambitious site for a first client. Loads of pages, complex functionality and an impossibly short deadline. Fuelled by excitement, stupidity and 20x the legal dosage of caffeine, we pulled it off!
We were paid really well for that project which was a huge motivation and the point I realised this is definitely what I want to do for a living.
Recently I was just offered full-time employment at an agency, and still able to take on side-projects with the client base that has accumulated solely from referrals on that first project.
Keeping up with the latest exciting changes in our industry is obviously important and this site helps tremendously with that, long live CSS-Tricks!
Here's hoping our demand keeps rising and we all have jobs for many years to come!
I am a rising designer/developer, although my awesome schoolwork holds me back from doing much coding. I hope to release some free WP themes over the summer--when I made my first one over winter break, I had a blast!
You can check out my site at http://knittingfrenzy18.webatu.com. My greatest achievements there so far are NinjaQuest and my WP blog. Thanks to Chris and this awesome website and its screencasts, I beat up Wordpress like a bully!

I'm James a company director from Brighton. I'm an ex freelancer who now looks after my own business's web presences. I seemed to of asked more questions than I have tried to answer (feel a bit guilty). My expertise lays in Flash, Photoshop, Dreamweaver and on/off site SEO.

Hi all, my name is Mark Senff and here's some things about me.
I'm Dutch, though I live in Montreal, Canada since 2006 (born and raised in Hoogeveen, for all the other Dutch people here...there seem to be a lot here!)
I've been creating/maintaining web sites since about 1995, both hobby and day job, but I didn't focus on front end development until 2007.
I've been hanging around on this forum for a couple of months now. It's great to be able to help people, and learn a lot as well, every single day, in the process. There's days when I feel I'm an expert in some field, and then the next day I feel like a complete amateur.
And finally, I just launched my new site at http://www.senff.com so in case you're interested in my works, or in my amazingly interesting front end blog, head over now! :)
My name is Jay, I am a web project manager for my company, Spring Mountain Solutions. I love building websites, and working directly with business owners and project directors to make them look good.
I have been building websites since 1997 (geocities!) and professionally since 2000. I started code-phobic but quickly reached the end of that road and since have been learning as much as I can about HTML, CSS, standards, visitor tracking, and search.
I live in Sonoma, CA and hope to contribute back to this community as I have been watching Chris' podcasts since I got my boxee and found him that way. Video tutorials pair well with some wine and a dog in my lap (I have a boxer and an American Pit Bull). This is not a very cohesive paragraph.
Just launched a site today, albertdicruttalo.com. One less excuse as to why my web portfolio still has spider webs on it.
Just joined yesterday but I've been lurking for a bit.

What brought you to CSS-Tricks? 2 years ago I hired a web design and development company who stole $4000 from me Flash Point Collective. Thanks to that experience, I’ve been learning web design & graphic design ever sense. Because of Css-tricks, I’ve become more influenced to build a career in this industry to help those who face the same problems as I once did. I’ve always been interested in web development in which I’ve been grateful to have a learning mindset for it. Heck, I even got an “A” in high school for a development class I took. Thanks to Chris and his dedication to educate, I’ve been following his videos since the start.

I'm from New York but currently located elsewhere. I am a Letterer and Typographer.
I started learning HTML in 2008 but quit for a while. I really dabbled in the web in 2010 when I thought it was cool to try and rip Elliot Jay Stock's logo (terribly failed). Ever since I was drawn to typography.
About the same time in 2010 I started coming here learning CSS as much as possible and accepted clients way before I was ready to and I quickly learned that was a mistake. I have met a lot of great people here who have helped me in the most generous of ways and I sincerely thank you.
Eventually I came to the conclusion that development just wasn't my thing. In 2011, I started receiving inquiries about typography work so I'm mostly focused on that and lettering now. I'm continuously learning this field and I couldn't imagine doing anything else.
@ChristopherBurton: I just can not wait for the release of your site since 2011. Your site is always saying "coming soon". Btw, I like retro style. They don't hurt my eyes.
Hello. I'm Eric and a web applications developer at a college. I designed most of our internal applications like our home grown content management system, etc. I stumbled into this site and now need it as much as my morning coffee. The community here is fantastic and I have learned so much from everyone.
I don't know how i missed this thread, but here we go.
I'm Cameron, Scotland born and raised. I'm a freelance creative designer who designs and builds websites by day and loves to create all manner of things from posters to logos by night.
I'm forever trying to extend my knowledge on web development where i've found this blog and forum as an indispensable asset that the internet just couldn't do without.
The community here rocks my world!
Feel free to say hi or follow me on Twitter - if you fancy.
Heya, I'm Corey, I work IT and live in Florida. Just recently got heavy in to web-design and this community has been my saving grace. I hope to eventually start some freelance work but for right now I'm happy just to be learning. :)
I'm Adrian; I don't say too much, but I've followed CSS-Tricks for a few years now and try to help out when I find a way to be useful : )
My first career was a schoolteacher, and I started doing freelance design work about ten years ago. I put together a (very bad) website, using dreamweaver and later frontpage, to help out my local boating club and scout group. After realizing how horrendous a product WYSIWYG Web editors spit out, I decided to start studying, and started adding a lot more "Web" to my "Design."
After about six years of "good" web dev, I'm now very heavily into whole-app development, both the front end and the server-side stuff. I love PHP; currently I'm trying to condense everything I've done over the years into the building blocks of a web app framework using v5.4. I'm also focusing a lot on improving my JS apps, and tinkering with Python on the side.
Oh, nice I never realized there was a thread like this. I'm theacefes (real name: Kat) and I am a front end dev living in the OC, California. I have a BS in Comp Sci with a focus in game programming but I switched from UI programming to front end dev after realizing how much fun it was. :)
I currently work for a startup in Orange County and have worked in various dev environments from .NET to Wordpress to Flash.
Intriguing reading all of these, it is always nice to learn about people...for me anyway.
I am Kenny, I am from Portland oregon, I am all self taught, but starting school next Monday for web development because frankly it will be the quickest way for me to learn Java entirely lol...I currently work for a company making mobile magic, but I do freelance on the side...I need to finish my personal site, or at least fix the code for the effect, I threw it up in about 5 minutes so there is no x-browser support and it loads slow lol, oh well :) http://design-ninja.net (seriously, don;t look at the code, haha, it's gross.)
I have been coming to this site for years but only started being more active as I became more confident, you have all helped me learn a great deal, and you are all wonderful!
I'm Hugo Giraudel, a front-end developer from Grenoble (France). Currently in a work-based learning, meaning it's half school, half work. Pretty interesting way to both learn and get money, I tell you. :P
I'm a CSS3 and HTML5 fan (those who know me can confirm that). I am the author of Wild Web Watch, a suite of handful resources and tools for webdesign and development.
You can catch me on Twitter, have a look at my work on CodePen or learn a little bit more about me on my website
I've been coming to CSS-tricks for a year and a half now I'd say, but I'm fairly new in the forum. CSS-tricks has always been a great inspiration and help for me, so I thought I could probably help some people for CSS related issues. :)
not sure if this has been done before
But I'd like to start a thread for people to get to know one another here :D
I'm a general IT guy from Dublin, Ireland and web design is a hobby of mine and I'm here because I like to help others and learn from you all
Working on getting a portfolio site up but for the moment I'm on Twitter :)

Eventually I came to the conclusion that development just wasn't my thing. In 2011, I started receiving inquiries about typography work so I'm mostly focused on that and lettering now. I'm continuously learning this field and I couldn't imagine doing anything else.

Btw, I like retro style. They don't hurt my eyes.
Thanks for your interest and kind words!
I'm Corey, I work IT and live in Florida. Just recently got heavy in to web-design and this community has been my saving grace. I hope to eventually start some freelance work but for right now I'm happy just to be learning. :)
Hi, i am Dhanishta, i am new to this forum, and Iwant to update my knowledge. please help me.
You can also find me on places like dynamicdrive, phpbuilder, and scifi-meshes.
Cheers!
Hi guys! Hadn't noticed this thread before.
