I noticed that a few websites, namely CSS-TRICKS and Smashing Magazine, have designed their site so that it is completely viewable in 1024x768 without scrolling, however there is a horizontal-scroll and you can actually scroll about 30px to the right. Why is it done this way? (I hadn't noticed this until just now)
It seems like we're going to be seeing in 2011 and 2012 more "device specific" tailoring to web design. As widescreens really pick up, I'm seeing 3 different types of looks depending on the user, < 1024, < 699 and standard for maybe 1280 screens and maybe higher in 2012... who knows :) But it really will separate the men from the boys as these nuances grow.
(then again, maybe phones by that time will be 1024 :P)
My question is: Is this good practice?
This will change in the coming year, or maybe 2011 to the next one up (1280?).
Regarding the horizontal scroll... that's just a mistake that I need to get off my ass and fix.
