I have a client who wants an ecommerce site. No problem there, there are many free or cheap cart applications that are easy to customise.
Is it possible though to upload a file each month to update the prices of existing items or add new products rather than entering them one by one? He will have quite a large database of products so doing it one by one would be a nightmare.
Can anyone recommend the best software to use to allow him to update his products in this way?
Firstly I would warn your client that an ecom site should be an investment, the cheap option isn't always the best idea.
There are many many options really, it all depends on the scale of the site and what he is selling, from a simple Paypal button solution to Magneto...
So yea, there should not be a cheap option, especially if its a large site. You will want to invest in a product that will be supported and updated with security fixes etc...
I thought that paypal was a good option seeing as you can now have it on your actual site without having to navigate away if you have a proper account. I figured that doing it that way would also take care of the security as PayPal handles all of that etc.
What would you recommend for a site with over a thousand proudcts?
I was considering cart software that uses pay pal? Would this not be the best option?
If you could give throw some names, brands etc at me that would help a lot, Thanks :)
The main point is to be able to update the prices and products in bulk somehow.

Hey,
Well I am no way an expert in E-comm, but there are a lot of solid products out there. A larger site, you need to look at something like Magneto - but be warned, as my friend who recently wrote a book on the software said, its a bit of a beast.
Foxycart is a kinda mid range amount of products I would say, its also really flexible with your site. Being a CSS fiend I really like the way Foxycart works.
Pretty much all online shopping carts support Paypal these days, its kinda silly not too really.
