[Solved] Really strange WP issue....HELP!!

  • Noticed today, that when I click on my WP portfolio page it locks up, and won´t load the pictures, leaving my whole blog locked for several minutes. I´ve also noticed, that this takes another of my WP pages (completely different domain, hosting and WP setup) offine at the same time. I´m sure it´s some sort of malware, but I can´t find out exactly what it is.

    Have people experienced this?

Also, what security plug-ins do people trust? What is the best one for searching and removing infections?

    Thanks

  • Do you have a link?

  • This is really annoying now. I´ve deleted all files, and started again with a new database. It seems any page with lots of pictures freezes the whole site (http://visualoriginal.com/portfolio/)and also freezes my other site at centroeducativoguadiel.es.... Does anyone have any theories? Really need help with this.

  • Now, all I´m getting is....

    _Forbidden

You don't have permission to access / on this server.

Additionally, a 403 Forbidden error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

Apache Server at www.visualoriginal.com Port 80_

I presume because of the number of requests on the server. Really have no idea what is going on!!

    HELP !!

  • try removing the .htaccess file (first back it up)

it could also mean there is no index.php file without an index file (any extension) you will either see an open directory, or in most cases a forbidden error

  • The initial problem seems to have deleted several important files, including the Index.php file. Has anyone heard of such a destructive virus? What should I do to make sure this doesn´t happen again?

    Thanks

  • check with your host about any possible server issues they might see on their end, also try disabling your plugins and reenable one by one if things go back to normal. To have a better idea or clue of what might be happening i'd suggest installing a local copy of wordpress(MAMP if ur on a mac) and run your site there, then check your error logs for better clues http://stackoverflow.com/questions/5214751/mamp-show-server-logging-in-terminal

  • I could really do with some help on this one, because I still haven´t found a solution. Godaddy say it´s a scripting or ISP issue. The guy who wrote the theme says he´s never seen a problem like it. I´ve removed deleted wordpress, deleted the database, and started again...still the same issue, in that on the portfolio page http://visualoriginal.com/portfolio, it locks up, and also locks up my page at centroeducativoguadiel.es.

All plug ins have been deleted, so it´s not that.

  • Timthumb is not an "out of the box" feature with Wordpress, so would assume that's a plugin. Could as well be the source of the problem, cause when I load the page, the images don't show. However when I go to straight to the URL of those images, they do show up.

@Orangeboy: even though you say all plugins have been disabled, I wonder where that Timthumb stuff comes from then? Maybe it's part of the theme? Try activating another theme just to see if that loads your page at least.

  • I do think it has something to do with Timthumb, which re-sizes images. But I have no idea how to fix it.

  • I think Tim Thumb is integral to the theme....and also the problem.

  • And why its there 2 sources? If it can't get one of them, then it will just stop.

  • I think it is definitely something to do with tim thumb. It´s really odd. If you go to visualoriginal.com/portfolio and inspect it, it gives out 500 and 504 errors, but if you post the image address into a browser it goes to the image!!!

Does anyone have any ideas. I´ve gone though so many fixes with Timthumb, that I don´t know what to do next.

  • @orangeboy Was this theme free?

I was searching around last week on my hosting providers blog and came across this:

    http://blog.stablehost.com/2012/03/08/timthumb/

  • @orangeboy Any luck with the solution I posted above?

  • Yes, I went though those, but no luck unfortunately. It seems to be a timthumb/ Godaddy compatibility problem, so I gave up and have started to use the freshizer plug-in instead.

Thanks for all of your tips!
