OS X Mountain Lion

  • Hi there Mac guys, unusual question.

For Windows it is possible to buy digital version.
Is there a way not to upgrade but buy on Mac solo separate installation of ... http://www.apple.com/osx/
  • Hey dude, I'm no expert on this so I'd like someone else to chip in and help but I think it's possible to purchase ML from the App store and then not install it. Once you click purchase it downloads the file first and I think it then gives you the option to install it.

I know that it's possible to re-download ML afterwards (source) however, I haven't tried either, I simply downloaded and installed and didn't pay attention to any option to cancel the installation (although I'm sure you can).

  • Thanks.
Why I am asking is this:

Mac HW = sucks (no flame here please, I like the design but "price + HW power" is terrible)
    Mac OS = superior

Other PC HW = 3x stronger for the price of Mac
PC Win as OS = sucks

I have both Lenovo with Win 7 + AirBook with Lion
    but using WMvare
    http://www.vmware.com/

if I could install Lion OS seprately I can run it on strong HW while still on Windows and Mac OS in a window of its own on external monitor on fullscreen

    because WMvare enables HW virtualization

    win:win situation
Mac OS + normal HW (not the mac fun stuff)
  • You can purchase it from the App Store and then load it onto a USB drive and treat that as an install disc. http://lifehacker.com/5928780/how-to-burn-os-x-mountain-lion-to-a-dvd-or-usb-flash-drive
