  • Hey all,

I'm putting together a site for a non-profit - the project is going unbelievably fast because they have a ton of press this weekend and it has to be online and working by then, so I was hoping to get some opinions on making it better before the weekend.

Here is the current test site.

The one issue I have in IE is that the 3 boxes that slightly raise up below the larger image in the top don't seem to react uniformly. In IE 7 they properly raise and lower individually, but in IE 8 and 9 they all raise and lower at the same time. I'm not a javascript expert so I'm assuming there's something wrong in my inefficient code but I'm not 100% sure what the problem is.

    Thanks in advance!
  • Dunno if you changed anything since posting this, but I just checked in IE 7,8,9 and it seems to work perfectly...
  • Can you talk more about the "rough layout" is that the footer only? Or could I work on improving the overall layout in your opinion?

I do agree with you the font sizes a little small for the footer.

Do you think maybe we should do more text in those 3 boxes where the images are that just explains those 3 concepts? We are focusing on the 3 areas they do their work in to help funnel people interested in that one particular area to support.

And no I haven't done anything but it's still acting weird for me on my IE. It's totally fine in IE compatibility mode, but not in the native viewing mode. Weird :/
  • Gotcha - I like it - thanks for the suggestion!
  • AS UI perspective site need a

  • That's an interesting topic to bring up. Is it me or are font sizes in general going up?

I've just noticed a number of my clients have been asking for increased font sizes to help with readability, and I've even noticed a number of people commenting on how much they hate small fonts. I know I've been moving toward larger fonts in general over the last year.

I do agree with the padding statement - I need to bring all the elements in line with each other which I haven't gotten around to yet. Thanks!
  • I like it. Graphically it is very well done.

    suggestions:
    1. nav menu hover state doesn't feel right. The slow transition is to soft for the intense colors scheme of the site. I would make it snappy.
    2. The floating ground at the footer looks weird to me (opinion), I would make it grow out of the background color, like a pile of dirt. Instead of floating it would be resting.
    3. those three boxes where the images are, make those filled with text and content instead of just images. Google will like that more.

    praises:
    1. I love the color scheme for african theme.
    2. graphics are well done.

  • Thanks @schmotty - Really like the idea of the footer. I'll see if I can work it out before Monday. I'll work on the menu as well. I definitely see what you are saying there.

Love the boxes idea - I originally build them for css3 gradients with fallbacks, but I wasn't getting the effect I was after. I had kind of envisioned having the background images in those boxes increase in size and slide to the left on hoving over the particular box, but based on how quickly this had to hit the street I fell back to images. I think I'll have to go that direction next week when we successfully launch.
