Hi all, I'm new not only here but also new at CSS. I have used CSS for a while while editing some websites but I haven't really started applying it on my own freely.

But that's not why I'm starting this discussion.

Basically, I love drawing and I've been growing in webdesign and started to like it. And my plan is to get myself some income while doing two things I like.

My idea is to make a website with some characters of mine that I'll be drawing, and they will be discussing various topics about society in general because I'm that kind of guy. I like to comprehend and study what society does and I like drawing and I like web design.

It's a big project that I have on my mind and I believe it can turn out to be something great.

I know it should take me a while to get some income and that's ok. The real questions are:

-I want the website to be somewhat like a blog, but I want the posts to be editable. I don't want them to just be image and text. I want to add some css tricks to them because the way the posts are made is the main focus here and what I want them to be may not be possible since the CSS will be custom in many parts of the text. Am I capable of doing that in blogger? I don't think I can, but I'd like to be sure.
-If I can't use blogger for this and you guys think I should make an actual website, how should I get started? Which web hosts would you recommend? If I make an actual website, how can I give it a blog-like feel?
-Is adsense compatible with websites that aren't at all related to google?

For now these are my questions. If there's anything I'm not being very clear at, please do say where and why.
Thank you for reading my post, I would really like your help since like I said, I'm a beginer at the whole web design thing and I'm not sure where to start.

I hope I'm welcome around here.

Quick question, mostly about the semantics and also just general opinion, as well as any negatives, if it is a passable idea to use Ordered Lists (OL) to mark up the main post listings on a WordPress site. These listings are just the title, maybe some meta data as to when it was posted, and the short excerpt.

I like the idea of using an ordered list, as the posts ARE in order (reverse chronologically), but with it having a title, date posted, by which author and the excerpt, that it may be a little heavy for just an OL list. Personally, i prefer using the list semantics over standard divs, but that may just be me. I do wonder though what effect it would have on SEO, if any.

Hi Guys,

Hopefully you can help me. I've been staring at code all day so I need a break but I just can't figure how to do this.

I want a previous posts / next posts link in WordPress in my Single.php but I want to include a little arrow next to the text which I'm using an icon font for rather than an image.

I don't think I can just use the standard wordpress next_post_link('%link', 'Next post'); because I need to add a class name to this link and I also need some span tags for the icon font.

This being the case I created my own links using a div and the necessary span tags with the data attribute etc,

The code I'm using is here

This does work fine, the only problem is when I'm on the most recent post. The text next post disappears as WordPress is controlling this but my span tags still remain. I could use JS to sort this but it just seems like there should be a better way.

I'm new to WP theming and icon fonts so if anyone can help I'd be very grateful.

Thanks

Hey all,

I have an scenario that I have not encountered yet and I was curious if anyone had tackled it or knew of a way to address it.

There's a web project I'll be redesigning and the issue is that it's a SUPER outdated version of ModX that's running the main site, and then they have a separate blog set up in Wordpress under the /blog/ URL. So for example, you'll have http://websiteurl.com/blog/somekindofarticle

They are now looking to just bring the whole thing into Wordpress since they already know how to use it for the blogging capability and they want the redesign to just be incorporated into it.

What happens to all the articles that are behind the "/blog/" url? Is there any way to maintain that part of the url for all future blog posts while the rest of the site is within just the standard pathway? Or is it better in the long run to just bring all the posts into the fold of the website and create some kind of htaccess redirect for anyone who has the old /blog/ urls?

Is there a way to do this with a plugin? Or could I maybe throw in some CSS and float the boxes to the left of each other and apply some margin/padding?

Hi, I have been asked to make a website and part of the design brief is that the home page has boxes scattered over the page for their latest work or posts.
The problem I am having is that they want the boxes to be dynamic so they want the sizes of the boxes to change weather it be a portrait picture or a video with text or whatever.
For that I was going to just use absolute positioning and then make sure they could never overlap with any combinations of photo or video boxes.
Trouble is they would also like to be able to position the boxes themselves within a grid.
What would be the best way to go about this? I am guessing javascript but is there any pre scripts around that will save me making one (its not in the budget). Or any ideas how I can achieve this?

Any help is much appreciated
Thanks

please help understanding website scrolling behavior

hi all, i'm trying to replicate the scrolling behavior on this site. in particular, here are the features that i'm tring to reproduce:

1) When you scroll anywhere on the page it scrolls through the detailed list of events to the right, inside the div .content. once the bottom is reached, then it scrolls the entire page moving to the next major section of the page, each section corresponding to a particular day. the process then repeats and also works in reverse. it doesn't matter where you scroll, the scroll behavior is always the same.

2) When you scroll there is only one scollbar slider visible on the far-right. And what is most interesting is that even when you are scrolling through the event list, the scroll bar is still sliding. In other words, somehow the content within the event lists is counted within the length of the entire page within the scroll bar.

Here is my attempt so far to replicate this: http://codepen.io/ezmiller/pen/xqtjs . The effect works more or less if you use the mouse wheel while hovering over the blue sections to the left. I am not at all sure that I'm going down the right path there though, and I'm also have no clue how to achieve #2 above. If anyone has any insights/tips about how to achieve all this, I'd be very grateful.

Hello Friends,

does anyone know how to create ebooks in epub and kindle format.
I actually went through a tutorial on http://bbebooksthailand.com/, but when I created mine, it refused to open in ADE. I validated it at IPDF validator and I got some errors and warnings. But the errors and warning are confusing. The validator said I didnt declare my book chapters in the content.opf file, but I did declare them. I dont know whether it's from zipping. But i used zip.exe to run a command and zipped the file to epub format, but ADE is not opening it, saying error.

I tried contacting bbebooksthailand.com for assistance, but they said i will have to pay for consultation.

Can anyone help me with any idea on how to successfully create, zip and open ebook in epub?

Thank u pls.

I noticed a majority of web designers/developers use IE style sheets etc so their projects will be IE friendly. But how in the world do these folks test their website in older versions? I have Firefox and could install Safari but what about older versions of Internet Explorer etc?

I tried installing older versions of IE to my computer but I wasn't able to since I already have IE9.
I would very much like to test my projects in older versions of a few browsers...
Any recommendations?
